Teething and Cell Salts

Bonjour and merci for stopping by!
Teething is one of those phases that tends to reveal the individuality of a child very clearly.
Some move through it quietly. Others feel it much more deeply.
And when they do, it rarely stays limited to the gums.
You may notice subtle shifts at first. Sleep becomes lighter. Your child feels a little more sensitive, a little less settled. There is a sense that something is happening, even before a tooth is visible.
In my experience, both as a parent and in practice, teething is never just about the teeth. It is a whole process, one that touches the nervous system, the emotions, and the general state of the child.
A process that begins before you see it
Teething often starts well before anything appears. Sometimes weeks earlier.
A child may become more clingy, or at times more distant. There may be restlessness at night, or a change in how easily they settle. You may notice drooling, chewing, flushed cheeks, or a general sense of discomfort that comes and goes.
Some children pass through this stage with ease. Others require a little more support.
This difference is not random. It reflects the underlying sensitivity and constitution of the child.
Supporting the process, gently
This is where I often turn to cell salts.
They offer a very simple way to support the body during this phase, without interfering with it.
Rather than forcing a response, they accompany the process, helping the body move through it more smoothly.
And with children, this gentle approach is often exactly what is needed.
The cell salts I consider most often
The choice always comes back to how the child is experiencing the process, but there are a few I return to frequently.
Calcarea phosphorica: When teething feels slow, drawn out, or uncomfortable. These children often appear unsettled, difficult to satisfy, as if nothing quite helps for long.
Calcarea fluorica: More structural in its action. I consider it when the gums feel firm or tight, or when the process seems to stall.
Ferrum phosphoricum: At the beginning, when there is a sense of heat, slight inflammation, or flushed cheeks, sometimes with a runny nose. When there is more discomfort in the gums, it can also be used locally. Crushing a few tablets with a small amount of boiled, cooled water to form a paste, and gently applying it to the gums, can offer a soothing effect.
Magnesia phosphorica: When discomfort is more pronounced, often coming in waves, and the child is harder to soothe.
Silicea: When teething is delayed or takes longer than expected, particularly in more sensitive children.
Keeping things simple
When parents are unsure where to begin, I often suggest starting simply.
A combination of Calcarea phosphorica and Calcarea fluoricacan gently support both the development of the teeth and the surrounding tissue.
From there, adjustments can be made based on what is observed.
There is no need to overcomplicate it.
Beyond teething
Calcarea fluorica is one I also think of beyond the teething phase.
It can be supportive for children wearing braces, where the focus shifts toward maintaining strength and stability in the teeth and their roots.
It is equally valuable in cases where dentition feels delayed or incomplete.
These early stages often set the foundation for what follows.
Supporting teeth and gums
Cell salts are not only about easing a phase.
They support the environment in which the teeth develop.
When mineral balance is supported, the body is better able to maintain the integrity of the teeth, as well as the health of the gums. They are the foundation that holds everything in place.
In children especially, this is a time where small supports can have long-term effects.
